8 Must Visit Digital Nomad Spots in the Philippines & SEA

Ever browse through your friends’ posts and wonder — how does anyone get any work done with all that traveling?

If you’re reading this, you’re probably itching to trade the office setup for a life of remote work and exploration. Great news is, I'm super excited to walk you through my favorite digital nomad hotspots across the Philippines and Southeast Asia to help you get started.

Ever since going on my digital nomad journey, let me tell you — these places don't just tolerate remote work. They practically live and breathe it.

But first — what is a Digital Nomad?

For some of you who may be asking — “Wait, digital what now?”. A digital nomad is someone who uses the internet to earn a living while traveling the globe. This lifestyle isn't just about ditching your cubicle. It's all about crafting your work-life flow. The best part is that all you need is your trusty laptop and excellent Wi-Fi to start.

Work has taken on a whole new groove lately. Ever since the pandemic, companies have given the nod to remote setups. So, if you've been dreaming of mixing your work with a bit (or even a lot) of wanderlust, guess what? The stars are aligning for you!

Southeast Asia is where it's at, and here's why

Imagine a place where the cost of living won't drain your wallet. Where jaw-dropping landscapes are right outside your door. Where opportunities and experiences are just waiting to unfold, and where the culture is as diverse as your playlist.

Southeast Asia is that place. And the Philippines? Might as well call us the Digital Nomad Portal of the World. Here’s what I mean:

El Nido, Palawan: Where Nature is Your Co-Worker

Nestled along the captivating shores of Palawan, Philippines, lies the enchanting paradise of El Nido.

Here, crystal-clear waters, limestone cliffs, and pristine beaches are basically office décor. Our trip here with the rest of the Shepherd team was a quick escape to paradise. But that didn’t stop us from knocking out our to-do list, and then knocking back a fruity drink or two while watching the sunset.

From setting up shop in a beachfront hotel to diving headfirst into the turquoise waters surrounding El Nido — we made sure to soak up every moment. That’s what you call work and play!

Siargao: Where the Beach is Your Boardroom

Tucked away in the turquoise embrace of the Philippine Sea, Siargao emerges as an explorer's dream come true.

If you want to work by the waves, Siargao is where it's at. Famous for its stunning waves and surfing scene, Siargao has no shortage of pristine beaches and lush landscapes. A promising escape into nature, each moment here is a celebration of life's simple pleasures.

The digital nomad community here is tight-knit and energetic. Trust me when I say we've been to different places all over the country and across the globe — but there is no place like Siargao.

Zambales: Where Celebrations Last Forever

Found on the western shores of Luzon Island, Zambales is a hidden gem awaiting discovery.

Spending time with loved ones is definitely one of the best perks of remote work. Arriving at Zambales was like coming home. Here, our family was welcomed with open arms. Most of our stay was spent in Waikoloa Hotel and Beach Resort — and we wouldn’t want to celebrate birthdays and Mother’s Day anywhere else.

Here’s what we did in Zambales:

  • Be one with the horizon thanks to the infinity pool

  • Share stories around the beach bonfire

  • Make memories through water and land expeditions

With orange and pink skies blending with the sea, days in Zambales feel like a scene out of a postcard. If you’re someone who likes their celebrations intimate, fun, and heartfelt — staying in Zambales is the way to go.

Batangas: Where Nature Nurtures the Spirit

Sitting along the southwestern edge of Luzon, Batangas is a serene sanctuary from the bustling world.

Here, we took a moment to slow down and check in with ourselves. In the safety of the lush Anahaw Farm and Resort estate, we gave ourselves the space to get to know each other beyond work and business.

Here’s what we did in Batangas:

  • Find grounding through yoga

  • Practice mindfulness with meditation

  • Enjoy the scenery with nature walks

For anyone wanting to take a step back, in Batangas you not only find rest but also gratitude. This trip was a great reminder of our power to lead meaningful lives and do meaningful work.

Tagaytay: Where Creativity Blooms

Perched above the bustling cityscape of Manila, Tagaytay offers a playground for creativity and expression.

Known for its cool breeze and panoramic vistas, Tagaytay is where moments of creativity await. Here, we explored the highlands through a trail of farms and cafés — ready to savor every view and flavor that came our way.

Bali: Vibes, Vistas, and Good Karma

Nestled in the heart of Indonesia's archipelago, Bali is for anyone in search for work-life harmony.

Here, I felt so safe and welcome that our tour guide became one of my closest friends. Known as the "Island of the Gods," Bali is a great destination to help you connect with your spiritual practice and make friends with warm, fun, and respectful people.

Here a unique blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences intertwine. During our trip here, I watched the streets come alive with the colors, sounds, and flavors of these diverse traditions. Every day in Malaysia is a chance to learn and experience something new.
